Age
is often seen as a measuring stick for achievement, especially in today’s
fast-paced world. Milestones like marriage, children, or financial success are
expected to happen at a certain age. When that timeline shifts or delays,
society can be quick to label such individuals as failures or “late bloomers.”
However,
age in God’s hands is not a barrier but a canvas for His miraculous
acts. He doesn’t operate by our earthly calendars. Instead, He works by divine
appointment in His set time.
Age
Is Not the Ultimate Qualification
From
a human perspective, we tie ability, strength, and opportunity to youth. But
Scripture repeatedly shows that God doesn't require youth to fulfil His
promises.
- Moses
was 80 years old when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt (Exodus
7:7).
- Caleb,
at 85, said, “Give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:12).
- Sarah
conceived at 90, defying biology and reason (Genesis 21:2).
In
contrast, David, the youngest in his family and still a teenager, was
anointed king (1 Samuel 16:11–13). The lesson? God calls and equips
at any age.
When
You Feel Left Behind as a Single Person
Are
you single and feeling like time is running out? Have your peers married, had
children, and settled down while you wait? Remember, delay is not denial.
Testimonies
abound of individuals who married at the age of 40, 50, and even beyond, and
have experienced joyful unions. God’s word in Isaiah 34:16 says, “Not
one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has
gathered them.”
Avoid
desperation. The pressure to "just marry
someone" because of age has led many into painful unions. Don’t make haste; rather, wait for God's best. “He that believes shall not make haste” (Isaiah
28:16).
For
the Married that are Still Expecting Children
Are
you trusting God for children, but it seems “too late”? Consider:
- Abraham and Sarah
— when childbearing seemed humanly impossible, God made it supernaturally
possible.
- Even today, modern-day
testimonies include women conceiving post-menopause and couples becoming
parents after decades of waiting, all because God stepped in.
The
enemy may whisper “too late,” but God specialises in rewriting timelines.
If you’re alive, hope remains (Ecclesiastes 9:4). With God, there’s no
“expired time”, only His appointed time.
Don’t
Settle, Don’t Compromise
Age
pressure can tempt both singles and married people to compromise:
- Singles
may lower standards or marry someone clearly not aligned with God’s
purpose just to meet a societal deadline.
- Married couples
may consider ungodly options (such as occult practices or unethical
fertility routes) to solve delayed childbearing.
But
remember: Nothing from the devil is ever truly free. The price of
impatience can be a lifelong pain.
How
to maximise waiting time
Ø Refuse
the pressure of the ticking clock — Don’t let age or
society dictate your pace. Let God be your timekeeper.
Ø Stay
focused on purpose — Are you walking in the path
God has called you to, or simply reacting to others’ timelines? Redirect your
energy to fulfilling His purpose for your life.
Ø Wait
on the Lord! —
Waiting is not wasting time! When it's done in faith. Be active in faith, not
passive in frustration.
Ø Rebuild
your faith daily — Read testimonies, meditate on God’s
promises, and seek godly counsel to strengthen and keep your hope alive
Surround yourself with hope-filled people.
Ø Pray
intentionally — Ask for strength to wait, clarity in
decisions, and grace to resist compromise.
Ø Encourage
someone else — Your testimony in waiting could be
someone else’s anchor in delay.
Ø Stay
in God’s presence: Like Anna the prophetess (Luke
2:36–38), waiting in His presence prepares you for divine encounters.
Conclusion
You
are not behind schedule; you’re on God’s calendar. Whether you’re
25 or 55, He makes all things beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Hold
on. Your story is not over!
CALL
TO ACTION:
·
Evaluate your motives:
Are you pursuing a relationship or goal because of pressure or God's direction?
·
Guard your decisions:
Don’t let the ticking clock push you outside God’s will.
·
Declare this today:
“I may not be where I thought I’d be by now, but I am right on schedule with
God. I refuse to fear, I refuse to settle. My times are in God’s hands, and He
will perfect all that concerns me.” Eccl.3:11 He hath made
every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart,
so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the
end.
